What is this Class?

Picture
The Story of Movies is an Encore Course for 7th Grade students at Mason County Central Middle School that is an interdisciplinary curriculum that introduces students to classic cinema and cultural historical and artistic significance of film.   A fundamental principle of The Story of Movies is that students study a single film in depth. In order to interpret and derive meaning from the films they study, students tap their existing knowledge of literature, social studies, and history, as well as art, music, and science. In using these multiple disciplines to analyze the film, students deepen their understanding of these other subject areas. The course also examines the Silent Film Era along with Propaganda Films of various era's through our nations history. Exploring film and its' impact on our present and past is the focus of this course.
